Course Overviews
Chorus
Chorus is a performance-based course in which students improve their vocal ability through rehearsals, individual practice, and performances. Students will also gain knowledge of basic music literacy, theory, and terminology. Singing in a choral ensemble is a group activity. The most successful choral groups are ones that have a feeling of responsibility shared amongst all of its members. The drive to succeed needs to come from more than the conductor.
Intro to Musical Theatre - Students will learn about different musicals and have the opportunity to sing and perform pieces from some shows. This course will focus primarily on the music and acting aspects of the production. Students will work on improving their vocal technique as well as their ability to express the music. Students will get to learn some musical theatre history. Students are expected to work effectively alone with others, sing alone, and to be supportive team players. NOT OFFERED THIS YEAR

Chamber Singers
Chamber Singers is an advanced vocal performance-based course in which students improve their vocal ability through rehearsals, individual practice, and performances. Students will also gain a better knowledge of music literacy, theory, and terminology. Singing in a choral ensemble is a group activity. Guitar A & B
Guitar A -This guitar class is an introductory level class for students interested in learning the instrument. This course should provide students with a basic knowledge of the Anatomy of the Guitar, Vocabulary, Musical Terminology and Literacy skills. Students will be able to perform by themselves and with others. Guitar B- This class is a continuation of Guitar A. It is more focused on group activities, learning chords, and chord progressions. This course will review the basics learned in Guitar A and will continue to enhance a students literacy skills.

Keyboard A & B
In this class, you will be introduced to the piano/keyboard, music notation, and basic music theory. By the end of this course, you will have developed the skills to identify music that is within your ability to learn, and to learn it on your own. As with any physical skill, consistent practice is necessary! If you do not have a keyboard or piano at home you are welcome to come in during activity to practice. |
Music Theory - This class is designed for students who seek to enrich their knowledge of music fundamentals. The purpose of this course is for students to develop skills that will lead to a thorough understanding of music theory and music composition/arranging. Topics will include rhythm, consonance, dissonance, melody, scales, basic harmony, cadences, four-part voice-leading, counterpoint and analysis. Time will also be spent on ear-training and aural skill development.
